Lake County, Indiana – Five Vehicle Pile-Up on I-80

Lake County, Indiana-Indiana State Police Trooper Chris Campione and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division Sergeant Wanda Clay responded to a five vehicle pileup on I-80, yesterday Thursday evening, east bound at the 6.

6 mile marker (this is just east of Burr Street exit).

At approximately 7:51 p.m., a 2008 Volvo semi, driven by Ivan Georgiv, 56 of Chicago, Illinois, was in the right center lane and changed lanes to the right lane.

The Volvo semi then struck a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, driven by Chester Woulard, 29 of Riverdale, Illinois.

This caused the Chevrolet to spin across three lanes east bound into the path of a 2003 Freightliner semi, driven by Joseph Malbouef, 29 of South Haven, Michigan.

The Freightliner struck the Chevrolet at a right angle.

A 2007 Kenworth semi driven by Daniel Bolstad, 60 of Alexandria, Minnesota was behind the Freightliner and unable to stop in time and rear ended the trailer of the Freightliner.

A 2006 Hyundai driven by Peter Leaman, 28 of Valparaiso, Indiana, was driving next to the Freightliner and Kenworth and was forced into the median barrier wall next to the two semi trucks.

One lane east bound was closed for investigation.

Three more vehicles were involved in a secondary crash in an attempt to avoid colliding with the first.

Georgiv was cited for unsafe lane movement.

Woulard was cited for Driving While Suspended, Failure to Maintain Responsibility (insurance), and Child Restraint Violation.

There were a total of eight occupants in the Monte Carlo, three adults and five children, seven occupants received minor injuries from glass in the face to complaint of back pain.
