SCSO Investigates Fatal Traffic Accident On 3/12/2011, Shelby County Dispatch received a call regarding a traffic accident on Collierville-Arlington Road one mile north of the Wolf River just after 9:00 pm.
When investigators arrived at the scene they found a Mustang with two occupants had been involved in a serious accident with a pickup truck.
A preliminary investigation shows that the Mustang was traveling southbound on Collierville-Arlington road when it lost control, crossed the center line and was struck by a Chevy pickup.
Witness accounts stated the mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed when it entered a curve to the right skidding into the northbound lane directly into the path of the pickup.
Both occupants of the mustang, Michael Cleveland, 16 of Oakland and Zachery Watson, 18 of Collierville were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
Speed was a factor in this crash and at this time there is NO evidence of alcohol usage.
Neither occupant of the mustang was wearing a seatbelt.
The investigation continues.
