Worcester, Massachusetts – Serious Injury Crash in the area of 28 Richards Street

35 Year Old Woman Struck by Car

Worcester, MA (January 31, 2011) - On Sunday, January 30, 2011 at approximately 12:21 AM Worcester Police responded to a report of a hit and run accident involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of 28 Richards Street. The Worcester Police Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene.

The victim is a 35 year old female who at the time was unidentified; she was transported to UMass Hospital (university campus) and is listed in critical condition with extensive chest and abdominal injuries. At approximately 12:15 PM Worcester Police were able to identify the victim from finger prints. The woman is a Worcester resident and her identity will not be released at this time.

According to the preliminary investigation, the female was walking in the roadway in front of 28 Richards Street when she was struck by a vehicle which left the scene without stopping. Police searched the area for the suspect vehicle but was unsuccessful. At 9:50 AM a woman and her 33 year old daughter came to the police station to speak with police in regard to the hit and run incident. According to the elder female, her vehicle is a 2007 Toyota Camry which was being operated by her daughter earlier in the morning. The daughter stated that she was traveling down Richards Street when the vehicle was struck in the windshield by what she thought was a hard object.

Investigators impounded the vehicle and searched it for evidence. The operator provided the investigators a statement about the incident. The identity of the operator will not be released at this time. To date, there have been no charges or citations issued as this investigation is ongoing.
