The Porterville Police Department will be conducting multiple sobriety and driver’s license checkpoints on Friday, December 31st, 2010 within the city limits of Porterville.
The times and locations of these checkpoints will be released two hours prior to the beginning of the operation.
Alcohol and drug impaired drivers are responsible for the deaths and injuries of many thousands of people annually.
The primary purpose of the checkpoint is to prevent incidents of driving under the influence through identification and prosecution of those drivers who choose to drive a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Porterville Police Department takes an active role in addressing this problem through education and enforcement. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
