Super Bowl Sunday is one of America’s unofficial national holidays. But this year has special meaning in Wisconsin, as we gather with friends and family to cheer on our Green Bay Packers!
Dane County Sheriff David Mahoney wants to remind motorists to celebrate responsibly by designating a sober driver if they plan on drinking alcohol this Super Bowl weekend. The Sheriff’s Office will have additional deputies on OWI patrol Saturday night, and deputies working on Sunday will be paying extra attention to motorists who appear to be intoxicated.
According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, more than two-thirds of Super Bowl Sunday traffic fatalities involve drunk drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Association reports that Super Bowl Sunday has become one of the nation’s most dangerous days on the road due to impaired driving. Forty-eight percent of fatalities nationwide on Super Bowl Sunday involve a driver with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher.
Remember, Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk, and always buckle-up – It’s your best defense against other impaired drivers.
